Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Oak Ridge National Laboratory is a Department of Energy research facility in Tennessee that conducts scientific research and operates advanced computing infrastructure. The laboratory is home to some of the world's most powerful supercomputers and serves as a major hub for computational science.

Recently, Oak Ridge switched on its first on-premises quantum computer, called Pathfinder, developed in partnership with quantum computing vendor IQM. This quantum computer represents a new computing approach alongside the laboratory's existing supercomputing infrastructure. The addition enables Oak Ridge to expand its research capabilities and support scientific discovery through quantum computing, positioning the quantum computer to complement traditional supercomputers in advancing scientific research.
