EU-Startups frames this as an urgent, already-running clock rather than a problem for some far-off future. The phrase "post-quantum era" refers to the period in which organizations must move to new forms of encryption designed to withstand quantum attacks.

Part of the urgency comes from a simple reality: data stolen today can be stored and decrypted later, once the technology matures. That means sensitive information sent now could be exposed years down the line, even before quantum computers are widely available.
