Apple is cutting more than 200 jobs across the teams behind its Vision Pro headset and its Siri digital assistant, according to a Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman.
Bloomberg's sources say the cuts break down to roughly 100 positions in the Vision Pro unit and another 100 on the Siri team, with the company redirecting attention toward new devices and AI.
The specifics are telling. As The Verge reported, citing Bloomberg, Apple is "largely shutting down" a Vision Pro gaming team and "reducing the size" of the group that produces the headset's immersive video content. That detail was also highlighted by 9to5Mac's Chance Miller, who noted the cuts span multiple teams at the company.
Apple has not disputed the reporting. TechCrunch reported that Apple acknowledged some roles are being affected as it shifts focus away from certain initiatives. Engadget framed the move as Apple pivoting toward smart glasses and next-generation AI technology.
Why this matters comes down to what Apple is signaling rather than the raw headcount, which is small relative to the company's overall size. The Vision Pro was pitched as the start of a new computing category, and gaming plus immersive video were two of the clearest answers to the question of what people would actually do with a $3,000-plus headset on their face. Pulling staff off both suggests Apple is no longer betting the near-term future on that form factor.
The Siri cuts point in a related direction. Apple's assistant has lagged behind rival AI chatbots, and reallocating people while investing in next-generation AI implies a rebuild rather than incremental patching of the existing product.
For consumers, the practical read is simple: expect less new content and fewer features for the Vision Pro you may already own, and expect Apple's real ambitions to show up in lighter-weight glasses and a rethought AI assistant instead.
