Artificial intelligence is being pitched as the technology that will finally reshape the robotics business. For now, though, that promise is running ahead of reality.

That customization is part of the problem: when every deployment has to be built and tuned for a specific task, robots stay expensive and slow to roll out.

According to Bloomberg, AI is what holds out the hope of changing that pattern — particularly for robots that can adapt rather than being painstakingly programmed for a single job. The appeal is a shift from bespoke engineering toward machines that learn and generalize, which could open robotics up to more customers and more uses.

The headline's caveat is the real story. The transformation is a promise, not yet a shipped result. The technology's potential and its practical adoption on factory floors remain some distance apart.
