Indian IT services giant Wipro is making a sizable wager on enterprise artificial intelligence. On Tuesday, the company unveiled an Applied AI Centre of Excellence built specifically around Anthropic's Claude models, according to Fortune India.

The new center, based in Bengaluru per Seeking Alpha, comes with an ambitious goal: training 10,000 experts on Claude within 18 months. That scale signals how seriously Wipro is treating the shift, as businesses increasingly look to weave AI directly into their core operations rather than treating it as a side experiment.

Wipro isn't just selling this capability to clients. According to Businessworld, the company also plans to deploy Claude models across its own internal functions, including finance, human resources and sales. In other words, Wipro intends to be a user of the technology it is building expertise around, not only a vendor of it.

Fortune India frames the launch as Wipro "deepening its bet" on enterprise AI, reflecting a broader race among large IT services firms to position themselves as the go-to partners for companies that want AI embedded in everyday business processes but lack the in-house talent to do it.

Wipro trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker WIT, according to Seeking Alpha.

Why it matters: As major consulting and IT firms commit to training thousands of specialists on specific AI models, the companies that supply those models — like Anthropic — gain powerful distribution channels into the enterprise world, accelerating how quickly AI tools reach the businesses most of us interact with every day.
