Chipmaking giant TSMC is setting its sights on the next frontier of processor technology. According to reports from Bing News and CEO Insights Asia (via Google News), the company plans to begin mass production of its advanced A14 process by 2028.
The A14 node uses what is known as nanosheet transistor technology, a newer way of building the tiny switches that make up a chip. According to the Bing News summary, TSMC is promising "significant" improvements over previous generations in three key areas: speed, power efficiency, and logic density — essentially, chips that run faster, use less energy, and pack more computing power into the same physical space.
TSMC is the world's largest contract chip manufacturer, producing processors that end up inside phones, laptops, data centers, and the hardware powering artificial intelligence. When TSMC advances its manufacturing "nodes," the entire technology industry tends to follow, because so many companies rely on the firm to build their designs.
Both sources frame the 2028 timeline as a projection rather than a finished product, and the reports offer limited technical detail beyond the headline promises of better performance and efficiency.
