Samsung is pushing to fill its most advanced chipmaking lines to the brim. According to a SamMobile report carried by Google News, Samsung Foundry is targeting 100% utilization of its capacity amid booming orders for 2nm AI chips.
"Utilization" is industry shorthand for how much of a factory's capacity is actually producing chips. Running near 100% is the goal every contract manufacturer chases, because these plants cost enormous sums to build and only pay off when they run full. That Samsung is aiming for it on its 2nm process — its newest and smallest manufacturing generation — points to real customer demand rather than idle capacity waiting for orders.
The push isn't limited to logic chips. Tom's Hardware reports that at FMS, Samsung unveiled three next-generation memory technologies aimed at AI data centers: zHBM, zNAND-O, and BV-NAND. The three target different markets, but per Tom's Hardware they share a common thread — all rely on advanced wafer-bonding techniques, a manufacturing approach that joins wafers together rather than building everything up in a single stack.
Taken together, the two threads describe a company positioning itself on both halves of the AI hardware equation. Modern AI systems are bottlenecked as much by memory — how fast data can be fed to a processor — as by the processor itself. Samsung is one of the few companies that makes both the logic chips and the memory that sits alongside them.
Why it matters: if Samsung can keep its newest lines running full while shipping memory built for AI data centers, it strengthens a second serious supplier in a market where advanced chipmaking has been concentrated in very few hands.
