Some of the most powerful figures in artificial intelligence turned up alongside President Donald Trump at the G7 summit, a rare gathering that put America's AI industry in the same room as world leaders.

According to Business Insider, OpenAI's Sam Altman and Anthropic's Dario Amodei — heads of two fierce rivals in the race to build advanced AI — attended the same CEO lunch on the same day. The two companies compete directly, which makes their shared presence at a single table notable.

They were not the only tech leaders in attendance. CNBC, as reported via MSN, said Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff and Meta Platforms' AI chief Alex Wang would also join a meeting on the final day of the summit.

The executives' appearance came as the summit's agenda stretched well beyond technology. WBFF reported that Trump closed out the G7 with leaders focused on an Iran deal, the war in Ukraine, and AI — placing the technology among the top geopolitical concerns of the moment.

The framing in coverage also nodded to investor interest: the MSN item ran under an "IPO watch" banner referencing both Anthropic and OpenAI, signaling that markets are tracking whether these private AI giants might eventually go public.

Why it matters: when the leaders of competing AI firms sit down with a president and fellow heads of state, it signals that artificial intelligence has moved from a tech-sector story to a subject of high-level international diplomacy.
