Anthropic has restored worldwide access to its Claude Fable 5 AI model after the U.S. government removed the export restrictions that had forced the company to pull back availability.
According to CNBC, Anthropic said the Trump administration lifted export controls on both Claude Fable 5 and a second model, Mythos 5. Forbes reported the move as a win for Anthropic, framing it as the Commerce Department dropping the controls on the two models.
Tom's Hardware reported that Anthropic restored global access to Claude Fable 5 just a day after the Department of Commerce withdrew the controls. It also reported that the relaunched model uses a single filter designed to block prompts that could identify software vulnerabilities and write code to exploit them.
The access had been limited in the first place over safety concerns. WION reported that Anthropic is relaunching Claude Fable 5 with stricter AI safety checks, after temporarily restricting access due to cybersecurity worries. Search Engine Journal reported the model has returned with new usage limits and additional safeguards.
The return also drew industry commentary on competition. According to Moneycontrol, Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu said Chinese open-source AI has posed a serious threat to market share and intensified competition, pushing global AI firms to improve — while expressing confidence that India will develop competitive AI models.
