Anthropic, the AI lab behind the Claude chatbot, is heading toward a public listing — and the numbers being attached to it are enormous.
According to Yahoo! Finance Canada, which published a "five things to know" guide ahead of what it calls Anthropic's "Wall Street debut," the offering is shaping up as one of the most closely watched tech listings in recent memory. An IPO would turn a company that has so far raised money privately into one anyone with a brokerage account can buy into — and would force it to disclose financials it has never had to publish before.
The scale of the ambition is what stands out. According to Moomoo, Anthropic sees a $30 trillion market opportunity — a figure that reflects not just the software business but the broader sweep of economic activity the company believes AI systems like Claude could eventually touch. Moomoo also frames the listing as a moment for the wider cluster of publicly traded companies whose fortunes are tied to Claude's growth, from suppliers to partners.
There is a human dimension, too. The Times of India reports that the move is set to make hundreds of Anthropic employees millionaires — and that the prospect worries chief executive Dario Amodei. Sudden wealth can reshape a workforce's incentives, and for a company that has built its public identity around safety-first AI development, a windfall that changes why people show up to work is not a trivial concern.
Why it matters: an Anthropic IPO would put one of the few companies at the frontier of AI development under public-market scrutiny, giving ordinary investors a direct stake in the technology — and giving everyone else a rare look at the actual economics behind the AI boom.
